Foundation Matches Funds in ‘Dollars for Scholars’ program

The United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana has supported the academic careers of 18 Louisiana college students since 2017 by participating in the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation’s Dollars for Scholars matching scholarship program (UMDFS).

This year, three students benefited from a foundation match: Matthew Carey, Asbury UMC, Lafayette; Emily Clarke, First UMC, Slidell; and Devan Martin, Live Oak UMC, Denham Springs; all attending Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport.

UMDFS, the UMHEF’s most popular scholarship program, awards more than $2 million annually to students attending participating United Methodist-related schools. It starts with a $1,000 scholarship from a student’s United Methodist church home, which is then matched by the school and participating UM Conference Foundations, such as the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana. Depending on available funds, the student could be awarded up to $4,000 per year.

Applications are due by March 1 of each year. More information on eligibility criteria, the application process and FAQs can be found at www.umhef.org/scholarships.
