Foundation Invites Clergy, Church Staff and Lay Leaders to Attend Tax Seminars

Tax season is right around the corner. To help clergy and church staff with tax preparation, the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana is hosting tax seminars. All clergy, church staff or lay leaders who participate in the finance and administration of the church are invited to attend.

Rev. Nate Berneking, the Director of Finance and Administration for the Missouri Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, will offer expert counsel on church budgeting, accounting, staff management, employee benefits, tax and essential legal matters.

The first seminar will take place from 8:30 am – 11:30 am and will cover “how-to” methods for clergy preparing their income tax returns and all of the relevant features in the IRS tax code specific to clergy. Rev. Berneking will also highlight new provisions and tax code changes.

The second seminar will be from 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm and will explore church financial issues and legal implications. Rev. Berneking will discuss basic church finance and accounting including payroll administration, forms, documents and procedures related to the financial management of churches and related ministries such as pre-schools, parents-day-out, etc.

The seminars will take place in Baton Rouge, La, on February 28 at First United Methodist Church and in Shreveport, La, on March 1 at Broadmoor United Methodist Church.

Participants can choose to register for the Baton Rouge or Shreveport seminars and decide whether to attend one or both seminars during the day. Register before February 13 and save $15. The seminars are also approved for .5 CEUs by the Board of Ordained Ministry.
