Foundation Celebrates 49 Years of Community Service with “Rooted Together, Growing Forward” Event

Baton Rouge, LA – The United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana marked its 49th anniversary of dedicated service to the United Methodist Church with a memorable celebration themed “Rooted Together, Growing Forward.” The event was held on April 16 at the Lod Cook Alumni Center at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, bringing together over 60 distinguished guests, community leaders, and Louisiana pastors.

The anniversary luncheon featured keynote speaker Frank McArthur, a noted philanthropist, active community volunteer and former chair of the Foundation’s board. McArthur delivered a humorous yet inspirational speech that underscored the importance of gratitude and community support in achieving long-term goals.

Chris Spencer, the Foundation’s President, presented a comprehensive recap of the past year’s achievements, highlighting how the Foundation has continued to make significant impacts in the community through various initiatives and partnerships. His presentation not only reflected on past successes but also set a forward-looking tone for the future initiatives planned by the Foundation.

The event’s theme, “Rooted Together, Growing Forward,” perfectly encapsulated the Foundation’s ethos of building strong community ties and laying the groundwork for future growth and continued service.

Just before the luncheon event, the Foundation’s board convened to elect three new board members and honor a distinguished leader. The Foundation is pleased to welcome Abby Cochran, a member of St. Francisville United Methodist Church; Rev. Mimi McDowell, who serves at Broadmoor Memorial United Methodist Church in Shreveport; and Senator Willie Mount, a member of First United Methodist Church in Lake Charles, each set to begin a three-year term on the board.

The Foundation recognized L. Nettles Brown, a First United Methodist Church of Natchitoches member, for his 13 years of dedicated service to the board, including a term as Chair from 2016 to 2018.

As the Foundation approaches its 50th year, it remains committed to its mission of being a catalyst that strengthens and preserves the current ministries of the United Methodist Church in Louisiana.
