The United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana is once again hosting tax seminars led by Rev. Nate Berneking for clergy and church staff or lay leaders who participate in the finance and administration of the United Methodist church, within the Louisiana Annual Conference.
Over 100 church laity and clergy participated in this Foundation event in 2017 and have benefited from Berneking’s expert counsel.
Topics will include church budgeting, accounting, staff management, employee benefits, tax and basic legal matters, and more!
Nate Berneking, attorney and M.Div., is the presenter for both sessions of the seminars. He manages the finance and administration of the Missouri Annual Conference and offers his leadership, experience and practical advice. He is the author of "The Vile Practices of Church Leadership," a primer on church finance and administration for every pastor and senior church leader.
Session 1: Income Taxes for Clergy. 9:00 a.m. - 12 Noon
”How to” methods for clergy preparing his or her income tax return and all of the relevant features in the IRS tax code specific to clergy. Also, highlights from the new tax law, especially as they apply to ministers.
Session 2: Financial and Legal Issues for Churches. 1:30-4:00 p.m.
Explore church financial issues and legal implications. Rev. Berneking will discuss basic church finance and accounting, including payroll administration, forms, documents and procedures related to the financial management of churches and related ministries such as pre-schools, parents-day-out, etc.
Registration required. $30 per session, which includes a copy of “The Vile Practices of Church Leadership” and refreshments. Late fee of $15 added if registering after Jan. 25.
CEU credit approved by the Board of Ordained Ministry; lunch is on your own.
This program is for anyone within the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church who deals with church finances.
